We are very proud to announce Recycled Clothing Banks to help London’s homeless
Whilst we are in the middle of the UK’s hottest summer on record, it won’t be too many months away until the bad weather is back and the homeless community in London will be in extreme need of support for warm clothing, food and shelter.
Last year it was reported that there were over 6,000 people sleeping on the streets or in tents and within accessible areas of public transport throughout the capital. With temperatures falling to below zero year on year and the potential threat of snowfall, the winter months can prove fatal for some.
What has driven Recycled Clothing Banks to help London’s homeless
In a City steeped in history, the beating heart of our financial economy, and with a global reputation for being on-trend, it is mind-boggling to think how so many men and women are still left out in the cold and how this homeless epidemic has reached crisis point.
Most people who end up sleeping on our streets end up there through a series of external factors that are out of their control and these include lack of money, relationship breakdown, immigration, physical or mental health issues, trauma, grief, addictions and abuse. Homelessness is very rarely a life choice.
Here at Recycled Clothing Banks, we work in association with The Salvation Army by providing branded clothing bins and installing them in public places that are easily accessible for Londoners to drop off their unwanted winter clothing. You can find them in and around retail parks, recycling centres, sports facilities and supermarket stores.
Now is such a good time of year to start clearing out the winter woollies that you’re never likely to wear again and donate them into one of these recycled clothing banks so that charities such as The Salvation Army can start to stock-pile potentially life-saving clothing.
Most churches who offer up their space as a winter night shelter also work directly with The Salvation Army who will send their guests to the local charity shop where they can be given free clothing and much-needed supplies.
Even the smallest of gestures can mean the biggest of things to people with nothing, so the next time you see someone in need of a hot drink or some food, buy it for them and make their day a little easier and a little warmer.
If you would like to help London’s homeless this year, please contact us today and find out how having a recycled clothing bank can make all the difference to the lives of London’s homeless.
